About
The Taurean® WINDSTRONGTM windlocked roller door has been tested and certified to comply with the requirements of AS/NZS 4505:2012 Garage doors and other large access doors (up to 3m high)1. Only compliant doors can be installed in all cyclonic areas of Australia; ie Region C and Region D – northern coastal areas of QLD, NT and WA. Information on the pressure rating and maximum forces transmitted by the door to the supporting structure can be found at www.taureands.com.au/windratings, and these ratings and forces must be taken into account when designing the structure and track fastening solution.
1 Doors taller than 3m are certified according to AS1170.2 or AS4055.
The WINDSTRONGTM windlocked roller door has a system of rivetted steel and nylon wind clips which fit into guide tracks and prevent the door from leaving the guide tracks during high winds. When the wind catches the door, it is designed to deflect in the middle, until the wind clips catch in the guides and put the door curtain into tension.
Instructions
These instructions apply as a supplement to the instructions for Series ‘A’, ‘AA’, and ‘B’ doorsFollow those instructions for installations except where as highlighted below.
1. Check the width of the door against the opening and ensure the metal sheet of the door is at least 100mm wider. NOTE: For Northern Territory “Deemed to Comply” requirements, the overlap is 120mm if fitted to concrete block or brickwork.
2. Important! All testing and certification is based on at least 9mm of travel in the wind clip. When determining the horizontal position of the track, position it so that it is touching the wind clips, then mark the location on the wall top and bottom and move the track back 1- 2mm. The plated wind clip itself should remain hidden behind the track when viewed from straight on if the track is installed correctly.
3. A pair of brackets is supplied for every position. There are left and right handed brackets and they should be paired as in
Figure 2. To prevent the brackets twisting on the bolts when under extreme wind load, the brackets must be positioned back-to-back. Brackets must be installed with the fastener in the centre of the slot to allow the track to potentially travel in the worst case scenario of an extreme wind event.
4. Important! The Wind-lock Track Brackets are to be positioned vertically up the tracks such that they are exactly adjacent (within 10mm) to each Nylon Retainer when the door is in the closed position.
See Figure 3 and Table 1 for bracket details and fastener locations.
·The 65mm high rear side is bent back from above the Top Stop at 15°.
·8mm of the tip is bent back a further 45° where the Nylofelt webbing runs to avoid the sharp end from catching on the webbing. Bend remaining corner clear, as noted.
·The rear half of the angled side face is bent outward at about 5 degrees to allow clear entry of the nylon retainers into the track.
Once the tracks are installed, if required, these lead-in angles should be adjusted to ensure
there is smooth entry of the nylon retainers and curtain from the roll and into the guide track top.
